How do I know what kind of pimple I have?
Sometimes we get pimples without really understanding why they appear or how to treat them. Some blemishes are painful, others stay under the skin, some turn red, while others leave dark spots for several weeks.
However, not all blemishes are treated the same way. Here’s a guide to better identify what your skin is going through.
Different Types of Pimples
🔴 Hormonal Pimples
Often located around the chin or jawline, they frequently appear before periods or during stressful times.
⚫ Blackheads
They generally appear on the nose, forehead, or chin when pores are clogged with sebum and impurities.
🔵 Under-the-Skin Bumps / Microcysts
Small, sometimes painful bumps that are difficult to get rid of, often related to clogged pores or unsuitable products.
🔴 Inflammatory Red Pimples
Red and sensitive, they can appear when the skin is irritated or weakened, sometimes by overly aggressive products.
🟡 Yellow Pimples / Pustules
They often contain pus and can appear after significant inflammation or when a pimple is picked. Avoid popping them: this worsens inflammation and promotes dark spots, especially on black and mixed-race skin.
🟠 Stress-Related Pimples
During periods of fatigue or anxiety, the skin can become more reactive and produce more sebum.
🍏 Diet-Related Pimples
An unbalanced diet, lack of water, or certain excesses can sometimes promote blemishes and sensitize the skin.
🧔 Cosmetic Product-Related Pimples
Changing routines too often, combining too many active ingredients, or using overly aggressive products can weaken the skin and cause blemishes.
☀️ Heat and Sweat-Related Pimples
After exercise or in hot weather, sweat mixed with sebum can promote the appearance of small pimples.
If in Doubt, Consult a Professional
For persistent acne or significant pain, a dermatologist is the best contact for an appropriate diagnosis.
With an adapted routine, good habits, and consistency, the skin can gradually regain more balance, comfort, and radiance.
